چکیده

Various discussions have been made by many investigators on the motor effect produced by stimulation of the splanchnic nerve which has been almost universally noted to be the inhibitory nerve to the stomach and small intestine (Kuntz1953, Hukuhara1953). Many workers have speculated as to whether or not the intensity, frequency and type of stimulation (Brown, McSwiney and Wadge1930, Barry1932, Hukuhara et al. 1954, Semba et al. 1955), the kind of anesthesia (Brown and McSwiney1932, Hukuhara et al. 1954), the activity and inactivity of the wall of the alimentary tract ( Vearch1925, Brown and McSwiney 1926, McCrea and McSwiney1928), its blood flow (Vearch1925, McCrea and McSwiney1928, Hukuhara et al. 1954) and so on, have any correlation to the production of a reverse effect of splanchnic stimulation. However, absolute conditions capable of producing reversal of splanchnic action could not be determined on the side of the gastro-intestinal tract or on the side of the stimulus. On the other hand, from the experiment on the motor reflex from the urinarybladder to the stomach and small intestine and from the experiment of gastrointestinal motor response which can be produced by central stimulation of the pelvic nerve, we were able to confirm that one of the motor efferent pathways was contained in the splanchnic nerve (Semba et al. 1956a). These experiments suggest to us that the motor effect is produced by the action of functionally different fibers from the inhibitory nerve in the splanchnic nerves. The present study was undertaken to obtain the absolute conditions necessary to produce motor effect of the stomach and small intestine of both dogs and toads by the stimulation of the splanchnic nerve, thoracic sympathetic trunk and spinal roots.

On Splanchnic Motor Responses of Stomach Movements Produced by Stimulation of the Medulla Oblongata and Spinal Cord.

It has already been reported by many authors that the motor center of the stomach is located in dorsal nucleus alae cinerea(the dorsal nucleus of the vagus nerve)in the medulla oblongata5), and that the motor pathways to the stomach from medulla are contained only in the vagus nerves6,10). However, as it was previously reported by one of the present authors, regarding the augmented motor reflex...

Effects of stimulation of the phrenic nerve on the movements of the stomach and small intestine.

In our previous investigation (NAKAYAMA and MORI, 1967)9) on the reflex responses by distention of the gall bladder and biliary tracts on the movements of the stomach and small intestine, it was reported that afferent pathways from the gall bladder and biliary tracts may be contained in the thoracic and lumbar splanchnic nerves. Recently HAZARIKA et al. (1964)4) have found that the sensory nerv...

A comparative study on soleus H reflex parameters using vertebral column and peripheral nerve stimulation

Although low-threshold transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is a modality used for control of pain, but its effect in the control of spasticity and change of excitability of a motor neuron is controversial. Therefore, this study was conducted to evaluate the effects of 15-min tripolar TENS of vertebral column and bipolar TENS of common peroneal nerve (300 µs width, 50 Hz) on synap...

Monoaminergic Modulation of Spinal Viscero-Sympathetic Function in the Neonatal Mouse Thoracic Spinal Cord

Descending serotonergic, noradrenergic, and dopaminergic systems project diffusely to sensory, motor and autonomic spinal cord regions. Using neonatal mice, this study examined monoaminergic modulation of visceral sensory input and sympathetic preganglionic output. Whole-cell recordings from sympathetic preganglionic neurons (SPNs) in spinal cord slice demonstrated that serotonin, noradrenaline...

Pressor reflexes produced by stimulation of afferent fibers in the cardiac sympathetic nerves of the cat.

Afferent fibers in cardiac sympathetic nerves were stimulated electrically in an attempt to evoke circulatory reflexes. A pressor response was always elicited during stimulation of the central end of the cut left inferior cardiac or pericoronary nerve in vagotomized intact-brain or spinal cats. The maximum blood pressure rise was 21.5 mm Hg during inferior cardiac nerve stimulation and 14.1 mm ...
